district councils look after the administration of the towns, boroughs, markets, villages, hamlets and outlying farmsteads that make up the district. aiming to reflect this diversity while also underlining the common identity, for the signage system we have rendered the most striking feature of each local crest as a heraldic figure in its own right. so now we have castle, cup and crozier, sword and star, each redrawn in a custom grid. this not only looks good, it also shows that the identity of the place as a whole is made up of many component parts.
