in its new guise this one-time emblem of the staufer dynasty that ruled over swabia in the middle ages is embedded in a background made up of many colours – visualising the plurality of a democratically constituted society. the multitude of colours and shapes reflects the population’s diversity and conveys a contemporary, open image. combined with the heraldic lion, this presents a clear and vivid conjunction of past and future.
