deliberate disruption – karin sander

what a disappointment. when you visit artist karin sander’s website at first there’s virtually nothing to look at – just five very small menu options in the left-hand upper corner, suggesting a repast so pared down as to be positively spartan. but that’s exactly the point: disrupting expectations is what this artist is all about. so it only makes sense that you get to her landing page and there’s not a single artwork in sight. and isn’t this radical refusal actually a gift rather than a provocation? isn’t that plain white space with the small black helvetica text simply beautiful? What, in any case, are we actually looking for? just one click and the standard card index box opens up: there are the texts, logically arranged in glorious, orderly, dull-as-ditchwater fashion. and, yes, of course, there are pictures, too.
